Skate-and-surf inspired summer collection

Fronted by Emily Williams and Jhanaiya Smith-Butler from Black Girls Skate, together with Camryn Silva, we have created a collection influenced by the lifestyle of skaters and surfers. Black Girls Skate is a non-profit organization devoted to creating equity, visibility and safety for all skaters who identify as women.The campaign celebrates freedom, empowerment and togetherness by lifting members of Black Girls Skate and giving them a place to share their individual stories.

"Being an ambassador for Black Girls Skate is one of the most important things in my life. As a black girl, I started skating in a world where I didn’t see myself in any skate magazines or any ads; no one looked like me. Skateboarding is a white male-dominated sport and to be a black girl standing on a skateboard is already making a statement. Black Girl Skate is bringing a sense of community and being ABLE to let the next generation of women feel powerful and infinite. Skateboarding is for everyone. Being an ambassador for Black Girl Skate kind of makes me that person for other people. And that’s honestly so surreal. Inspiring people is the inspiration itself."

"Skateboarding has largely impacted my future. Before skating, I am a humanitarian trying to change the world, starting by ending poverty and houselessness in the Bronx. From the support that I’ve garnered through skating, I've been able to raise money for food drives, park clean-ups, and clothing drives to give back to the community. My biggest supporters are skaters. They’ll skate 4 boroughs with suitcases on their backs to bring me supplies I didn’t even ask for because we believe in each other and support one another’s dreams."

Whatever you want to do in life you’re going to have some fails. And sometimes they’ll be some really bad ones. But if you really want that dream trick, or that dream job, or whatever it is, you’ll get back up, brush yourself off and keep pushing. That’s what makes someone a great skater."
